Twelve chi kung breathing exercises w Ed Martin

From New Products from Budo Shop Store by New Products from Budo Shop Store

Ed Martin Shihan is a long time student and master teacher of the Bujinkan Dojo system founded by Dr Masaaki Hatsumi Soke Ph.D. Another long time friend of Ed named Charles Daniel have studied many different martial arts for many years. He taught Ed a series of chi kung breathing exercises for health benefit. Ed says that this have turned out to be very true. Now you to can learn these simple and yet very effective breathing exercises with this video.

The ability to take in and store vital energy comes under the general heading of chi kung. There are hundreds of methods of chi kung, including Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian sources in China. India and Tibet both had strong influences on chi kung in China. A great interchange took place between these countries, not only in trade, but also in culture and religious practice. Many Buddhist monks carried the teachings to China, and with them secrets of health and longevity. Since that time the Chinese have adapted and changed all that they have learnt, and produced the multi-faceted chi kung of today.

The main reasons for people performing chi kung can roughly be divided into three areas.

  1. Health promotion/stress-free mind.
  2. Longevity: chi kung advocates believe that correct and regular practice will ultimately lead to a healthy and extended life span.
  3. Martial arts: the ability to generate tremendous power from chi kung training.

Kihon Happo – Budo Basics with Shihan Lubos Pokorny

From New Products from Budo Shop Store by New Products from Budo Shop Store

This is a video filmed in Bujinkan Honbu Dojo in Japan with Shihan Lubos Pokorny and his students from Bujinkan Czech Dojo. The theme of this training session was Kihon Happo, the eight basic techniques of Kihon Happo.

First one of the Shidoshi shows the basic form, then Lubos Shihan goes in to detail showing the important points and the feeling. He also shows variations unarmed and with different weapons, against one or more opponents.

He is talking in Czhech as he moves around and show with the body language. He doesn't hold long "lectures", so what he says is quite easy to understand through body language.

It was filmed with two cameras from different angles and then edited very nicely so you can see the details from two angles.

Who is Tim Bathurst
Good question… Tim is a senior student of Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi, living and training in Tokyo Japan. After a few visits starting in 1990, Tim moved to Japan in 1997 and is one of the few foreigners to have earned the title of Shihan while living in Japan. Presently graded at Judan-ka (10th Dan-Fire level…13th Dan to some.)

Tim has never been in the Military, never served as a police officer, never done personal security, never been to war... Actually, the only thing he has really done is train with the best of the Bujinkan for the last dozen years or so.

If you've been to Japan in the last 5 years or so you would have seen Tim at Hatsumi sensei's or Nagato sensei's dojos. If you're unlucky you will also have to put up with him translating from Japanese into his own Australian version of English… and occasionally into rather poor Spanish.

One of the huge benefits of training for so long in Japan is that Tim has learnt his weapons technique as well as his Taijutsu directly from the Grandmaster and the top Master students of the Art.
