Brooks Martial Art Center

Contact: Tony Brooks

Tony Brooks, and everyone who came, as the first stop on this seminar tour, really helped kick it off right. I could see definite improvement from many of the people who have been coming to this event over the last few years, thus reconfirming my decision to travel and share Soke’s art to the best of my ability.

Special Foundational Workshops – Night Classes

Manaus, Brazil

Contact: John Holladay

Its always cool when you get to see your friends after a long time, especially when, after training with you in the past, they have continued improving and taking positions of leadership themselves. John has a really great, close-knit group there in Manaus. He has done a good job of teaching the foundations of Budo. This can be especially challenging when you are teaching at a military facility as John does!

Thanks for the hospitality John, I am looking forward to the next time…

March 6 and 7:

TAIKAI Brasil 2010

Joao Pessoa, Brazil

Contact: Simao Freitas

Wow! What can I say?! This taikai was awesome. So many obviously dedicated people, traveling for thousands of kilometers to train for nearly a week! The venue was super cool, with the beach nearby and great weather the whole time.

Do to the great distance and cost of traveling to Japan, it is very difficult for many Bujinkan members to get to Japan, so when they got a taste of some of the feeling from Japan, they were thrilled. And for me, when I saw the look of surprise and then later understanding on their faces, that was truly the highlight of my time there!

I have no doubt those groups from all over Brazil will begin making huge strides in the direction they want to go. I am already thinking about next year!

Ninpo/Ninjutsu seminar update (next week)

From Kabutoshimen by Toryu

JPNKanjo09-1-Tak-2 JPNKanjo09-1-Tak-15

Now it is less than a week until the Ninpo/Ninjutsu Seminar with Dean Rostohar. Here is some updates and news…

Dean is coming on Friday already, but we have no extra training planned. Dean is also bringing some of his top students with him this time, so I’m sure they will also help him with the teaching. This will be an exciting seminar, he will teach lot’s of stuff we usually don’t see in the trainings in a regular Bujinkan Dojo.

  • Place: We booked the dojo. We will be in Kaigozan Dojo on Sveavägen 130 in Stockholm city (here is the map).
  • Saturday training: We open the dojo after 10:00, the training start at 11:00 and finish at 18:00 with a longer lunch break.
  • Saturday evening: As usual we want everyone to join us for dinner at a local restaurant, if you don’t hear about this by e-mail we will inform you about it Saturday morning.
  • Sunday training: we start at 11:00 and finish around 15:00. We do not have a longer lunchbreak, so prepare yourself with something to eat during the short breaks.
  • Late people: if you haven’t signed up for the seminar do so immediately, or look at the web site first to see if there is places left before you come.
  • Seminar fee: One day training is 500 SEK, for both days 850 SEK. We suggest that you sign up and pay early next time to get the discount!
  • Seminar DVD: We will film this seminar and you can pre order the DVD for 200 SEK ( we will send it to your address when it is done) at the seminar, or you can buy it at the KGZ Budo Shop later… https://www.budoshop.se/store/

For more information about this seminar see this web site… http://kaigozan.se/seminars/2009-09-26/

Bujinkan Seminar List (v2.0 beta)

From Kabutoshimen by Toryu

I’ve been working on a new seminar list. I totally rewrote all code to php, it is much faster than the old one. There is a few things I need to figure out before I remove the “beta tag”, but it is already very usable (open the page and look at the page source for options).

Here is the link for preview http://kesshi.com/seminars/bujinkan.php

This weekend I’m at a seminar, then I take a week off over the holiday, then new year and off to Japan. So I don’t know when and how much time I have to work on it.

If you have any ideas, please let me know, add a comment here or contact me!

Merry christmas and happy new year!…

Bug fix on the seminar apps

From Kabutoshimen by Toryu

Every December the Next month seminars would show the whole past year. It was a scripting bug that I have fixed now. Since it is december next month it should default to January and forwards, but there is also a tab with Next years seminars so instead I added a message that it is the end of this year and look at next year for future seminars.

Here is the PHP code if you want include it on your web site.

<?php
$nextmonth = mktime(0, 0, 0, date(“m”)+1);
$monta = date(“m”, $nextmonth);
if ( $monta == “01″ )
{ $yerra = date(“Y”)+1 ;
echo “<p>It is probably December now, click on Seminars next year</p>”;
}
else
{ $yerra = date(“Y”) ;
$ch = curl_init(“http://www.kesshi.com/cgi-bin/SEMINARS-ME2.cgi?$yerra-$monta”);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0);
curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
}
?>

If you want more examples how to display seminars from the database on your web site, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I really do encourage all web masters to use any code they want (mine or modified) to display seminars from the seminar database.

Web site uppdates

From Kabutoshimen by Toryu

I made an even smaller seminar application that you can put on your web sites, check it out here. I forgot to tell you about the two previous versions, the slick one and the facebook application. It is still free to advertice seminars! For more info see here.

I updated the Shugyou portal now with seminar lists for this year and next year. When we moved the websites to a new server some things crashed. I found out that the newsletter mod didn’t work, and I had to upgrade this module. And even that one did not work, so I had to spend half the day reading support forums, and I finally fixed it. So if you subscribe to the newsletters you have a new mail from us today.

BTNet is also up and running, the forum software is still beta, but it seems pretty stable now. I won’t do any major work on it until the stable release. But this concerns only the back end, so start using it, the messages will still be there after the uppgrade…

There is a lot of new pictures up at the Kaigozan photo album. There was however a lot of spam on it, so I had to update the software. But it is still possible to add spam. It is quite easy to remove, but if it get too much I will close the registration process and ask you to contact me if you want to add pictures. But until then, please start uploading your pictures (Bujinkan related only!).…
